22th November 2023, 3rd General Meeting in presence in ROME, Italy
The 3rd General Meeting of Seafennel4med Prima Project took place at CREA – Centro di ricerca Alimenti e Nutrizione, Via Ardeatina, 546, 00178 Roma, Italy.
The first demonstration activity involving students will take place in the open field located in Camerano (Ancona, Italy) at the Project Partner Rinci Facility. Students of different ages and backgrounds will have the chance to be guided in the C. maritimum open fields by experts (i.e., agronomists, food technologists, and researchers) and to experience the harvesting of sea fennel. The flyer of this activity is circulating among students just right now. Instructions for students to participate are inside the flyer.

THE MOST RECENT REVIEW OF SEA FENNEL IS NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE
A review dealing with the “Sea Fennel (Crithmum maritimum L.) as an Emerging Crop for the Manufacturing of Innovative Foods and Nutraceuticals” has just been published in the peer-reviewed journal Molecules. The review provides insight into the nutritional and functional traits of this new crop as well as its exploitation in innovative food and nutraceutical applications. THE 2ND GENERAL PROJECT MEETING
To discuss the on-going activities and achievements related to WPs of the first year of the SEAFENNEL4MED PRIMA FUNDED PROJECT, on May 11st, 2023, at 9.30 am (Rome time) the Principal Investigators (PI) and the research Team Members of the Partners of the SEAFENNEL4MED Consortium met in remote mode via Teams Platform. The general project meeting n.2 was regularly convened by the Coordinator of the Project, Prof. Lucia Aquilanti.
LITERATURE REVIEW
A new literature review titled “Sea fennel (Crithmum maritimum L.) for the food and nutraceutical industries” was accepted for publication. It will be open access in Molecules (MPDI) International peer-reviewed Journal. Congrats to the Italian Team and the Coordinator.
INTERNATIONAL/NATIONAL CONFERENCES 2023 ON-GOING
This year, 2023, senior and young scientists involved in SEAFENNEL4MED project are presenting their results in all Europe, from Germany, Serbia and Croatia with poster and oral presentations. Here the on-going conferences:

FAMELAB
In Ancona, at UNIVPM Partner, on 18th May, a young researcher won the 3rd award in the FameLab Competition. In 3 minutes she communicated her research on sea fennel to a global audience, especially to high school students, and an expert panel of judges.

The first open-access paper dealing with the chemical profiling of essential oils extracted from the flowering aerial parts of wild-grown sea fennel (Crithmum maritimum L.) collected in Central Dalmatia in September 2022 at the plant full-flowering stage has just been published in the peer-reviewed journal Plants (https://doi.org/10.3390/plants12010214).

Kick-off Meeting
To celebrate the start of the project (30.05.2022) a kick-off meeting was held on 15th June 2022 at the Botanic Garden “Selva di Gallignano”, Università Politecnica delle Marche, Ancona (Italy). Principal Investigators (PI) and research team members of the SEA FENNEL4MED Consortium met, in a dual mode (presence and distance).
The first flash presentation dealing with the carotenoids and tocopherols of a new food ingredient based on sea fennel by-product was accepted by the Scientific Committee of XXII EuroFoodChem in the Session: Food composition, quality and safety.
The EuroFoodChem Congress is an important international gathering in the field of food chemistry and it will take place in June 14 – 16, 2023 in the capitol of Serbia, Belgrade where the Italian Team will present their results.
